"Screening Safari"

SM-1997

With a donated GMC-Safari Van from the Northern California GMC Dealer Association and unrestricted educational grants from Chiron Therapuetics, Llumar Window Films, Maxim Pharmaceuticals and Schering Oncology Biotech,The William S. Graham Foundation for Melanoma Research ("The Billy Foundation") travels the Greater Bay area and beyond, as a community service, providing free screenings for the deadly disease of malignant melanoma.

The mobile unit requires only a 10' X 20' area to set up its self-contained privacy screening area. The screenings are done by qualified doctors/Dermatologist who volunteer their time. The program is also sanctioned by the American Academy of Dermatology. When not in use as a screening facility the "Screening Safari" is used as an Educational/Public Awareness unit traveling to schools, special events, parades, etc. helping to get the word out about the prevention of this disease, which is highly curable if found in the early stages... but is lethal found in the later. You can have the Zebra "Screening Safari" Van to your pre-school through High school, gathering or festival by calling the Foundation at 1-888-88-BILLY. Keep your eye out for the zebra striped van in your area and when you see it be sure to stop by the "Sun Shelter" for your FREE sun screen and sun safety tips!
