Since the 1940’s the incidence of melanoma has doubled every year!

 

Since 1981 the incidence of melanoma has increased an average of 7 percent per year.

 

Melanoma is the most common cancer among people 25 to 29 years of age. 

 

Melanoma is now the most common cancer in young women aged 25-29, and second only to breast cancer in women aged 30-34.

 

More then 80% of skin cancer deaths are from melanoma. 

 

Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in men and the sixth most common in women.

 

Melanoma discovered in Stage III-Lymph Node involvement has a 5 year survival rate of 30 to 40 %.

 

Melanoma discovered spread to distant organs Stage IV (liver, bones, brain, lung, etc) the 5 year survival rate is less then 16%

 

Sunbathers have a two-fold increase in melanoma risk.

 

The average person’s chances of being diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime are: 1 in 52 for men; 1 in 77 for women.

 

However, if you live in a “sunbelt state”, such as California, Florida, Texas, etc. your chances increase to:  1 in 45 people.

 

One person dies from melanoma in the United States every hour!
