Mission

  • The Primary activities for this 501-C3, non-profit foundation is to raise funds in support of research designated to finding the cure for the later stages of the deadly disease, Malignant Melanoma, to educate the public regarding the cause and prevention; and through specific public awareness programs assist in the early detection of this insidious, potentially lethal cancer.

Major outcomes associated with The Billy Foundation

·         87% of funds raised went directly into education, public awareness or research grants/scholarships

·         Initiator and sponsor of:

·         Billy’s Bill for Sun Safety – CA-SB 310-which was signed into effect in October 2001

·         Sunscreen bill SB#1632 which was signed effect May 2002

·       Screening Safari visiting numerous sites and screening 5,000 people

·         Fifth world conference on Melanoma accepted the Billy Foundation pin as the ‘official melanoma pin’

·         Over 7,500 children taught via SS KIDZsm

·         Over 100,000 packets of sunscreen were dispersed

·         Lives saved by early detection

National exposure

·         Appearance on the Today Show

·         Inclusion in a two page spread about The Billy Foundation in the December 2001 issue of PEOPLE Magazine

·         Interviews in Newsweek, American Profiler & Parenting magazines with Foundation’s President

Information distributed

·         Almost 50,000 pieces of literature distributed

·         Almost 1,000 phone calls answered

·         International reach through website as it was accessed by over a quarter of million people last year – www.bfmelanoma.com
